RE: Trailer leveling bags

I did just the opposite on my old TT. I put a set of Firestone air bags on it (the kind for load assist) and used them to level in the up to 4 inch range. installed them between the axle and springs. With the spring travel you don't want to go any more then about 4 inches. Use the air bags to level, set your stabilizer jacks and enjoy! Worked GREAT for me. To deflate them I used an air chuck not connected to an air hose. Only took seconds to deflate them for travel. You will want to leave a little air in them though, not suppose to use the air bags empty.

RE: PC Vendors must start charging for XP "upgrade"

If you are going to get a new computer, get Vista. Just make sure you also get 2GB or 3 GB of RAM. Don't 'waste' the money on more RAM, 32 bit CPU will not see more then 3.5GB. As for Vista, I have it on my laptop with 2GB of RAM and it runs fine. Like Aridon said: driver issue is with older printers and stuff. I have not found anything that will not run on Vista except my 5 year old scanner. Microsoft is replacing XP with Vista. Why buy something out of date for a new computer?

RE: Blue boy hitch handle over a trailer ball

I have one of the older ones. My handle is kinda 'Z' shaped and routes through the handle on the blue boy so I have lots of weight to hold it over the ball. Like smkettner said, just watch your speed and you'll be fine.

RE: WHAT am I doing WRONG?

You must be on a F-53 chassis older then 1998! I have the LT235/85/R16 on mine also. Had them for about 2 1/2 years now with no problems. I only use wheel covers in the winter (I know, bad on my part) so I'm guessing it's the CA sun or Ozone like others have said.

RE: Sharp Carousel microwave, smart and easy model

Is it always 59 seconds? Reason I'm asking is some did not have the protective plastic removed from the case when they were installed and had a LOT of over heating troubles. The Micro would get too hot and shut off. But if your shuts off at 59 seconds every time, this probably isn't your problem.

RE: F-53 Transmission Question.

Jerry, You said you have 15K on a remanufactured tranny! Remanufactured is the key word!! Were new seals installed when it was rebuilt or were the old ones just inspected (and if they were okay, left alone)? Did the rebuilder install the torque converter with out damaging the seal? Not trying to be negative but I'm not too trusting of other folks work. Good news is if you are handy you can drop the tranny, remove the torque converter and replace the seal fairly easly. Just remember the weight!! Also, while you have the tranny down, check the fluid in the parking brake!

RE: F-53 Transmission Question.

The Torque convert. With the engine off the tranny fluid will drain out of tge torque converter to the bottom part of the drive spline. you can drop the tranny then remove the torque converter and replace the seal and only lose about a cup of tranny fluid. I would recommend draining all of the tranny fluid and replace it and the filter if your going to drop the tranny anyway!

RE: Brand new to RVing.... AC isn't cold.

You said you are 'handy', I replaced mine about 2 years ago. First if you have a single AC unit, yes get a 15K unit. Then if you have a big tree you can drive under (or make an A-frame out of 2 x 4s) connect a hoist to it, disconnect the old AC, put straps under it, connect them to the hoist, lift the AC off the roof, drive the MH out from under, lower the old one to the ground, swap out with new one, hoist into air, drive MH back under and lower it on the roof, reconnect and DONE! Took me longer making an A-frame then swapping the old/new one out.

RE: power help!!!

Check for 120V at the plug where the convert is plugged in at. If you have volts the problem is on the 12 volt side. If you don't have volts the problem is on the 120 volt side. 120 volt side: start at the shore power and work your way to the converter. 12 volt side: if your below 12.6 volts... probably converter.

RE: How to mount fiberglass roof carrier on rubber roof?

I did the same thing on my old unit. What I did (because of weight) was mounted the carrier to painted box iron, one to keep it off the roof and two to move the weight to the outer edges. Then I used chassis bushings (from NAPA) between the box iron and roof and RV roof grade sealer around lag bolts to hold it in place. Had it that way for over 6 years with no water leak or sagging problems.

RE: Macerator Pump

I saw a posting a while ago where someone used an old garbage disposal for a macerator. I'll look and see if I can find it. Remember he said the rubber flange was 3 inches and worked great.

RE: Bathroom faucet - need longer one

C.R. I had the same problem in the bathroom. What I did was added a 18 inch flexible 'riser' hose between the camper pipe and put a 'loop' in it to the facet. With the loop you may want to use RV anti freeze in the winter instead of just blowing the lines out.

RE: Want to install 19 gallon electric water heater

One thing to 'think' about!! "home" water heaters are glass lined and will crack and rust through with all the bouncing going down the road!!!

RE: Bathroom faucet - need longer one

Good News!! The kitchen and bathroom facet holes are "standard" for RVs and homes. Get replacements at any home improvement store. ALSO get a 'plumbers' facet wrench (about $5.00)!!!! Right and left handed swinging head is a life saver getting the old one out and new one in!!!! I already replaced my flimsy (cheap) kitchen and bathroom sink facets with home facets.

RE: tank valve lubricant

Also be careful with WD40 and Bleach! The rubber seal on the slide can swell and cause the slide valve to move hard!!!

RE: Mounting a small shelf in bedroom slide

First is your framing wood or metal? then use a 'stud finder' (Lowes or Home Depot) and use right screw for framing type. Another idea: IF your total load is under 5lbs try the Scotch picture holders (no holes needed!) but still may want to use them over a stub area so wall doesn't bow in time with even light weight.

RE: Keep unit plugged in or not?

To add a little more info. The "50A" to "30A" adapter links both "50A" hot lines together. "50A" has two hot, one neutral and one ground wire. "30A" has one hot, one neutral and one ground wire. The 50 to 30Amp adapter connects both 50A hots to one 30A hot. So, so long as you don't exceed the Amp rating of the plug you plug into (and no GFCI's in line) you will be fine.
